Exciting things are happening at Streatham Ice and Leisure Centre! We’re thrilled to announce that our rink now boasts a brand-new, freshly laid ice surface. It’s been a huge effort from our team and we’re excited to share the process.
Step 1: Melting the Old Ice
The journey began with warming up the rink to melt the old ice. Unlike most arenas where the ice drains naturally, our rink requires a more hands-on approach. Raising the temperature allowed the ice to melt away, setting the stage for the next steps.
Step 2: Manually Removing the Ice
With the old ice melting away, our team rolled up their sleeves for some manual work. Ensuring every bit of ice was removed required careful attention to detail. This meticulous process is crucial to laying a smooth new layer of ice.
Step 3: Laying Down the New Ice
The exciting part began once the rink was cleared: laying down the new ice. This is done in thin layers to ensure the surface is perfectly level. Each layer is carefully frozen before adding the next, creating a smooth, even surface ready for skaters of all skill levels.
Step 4: Adding the Final Touches
After achieving the perfect ice surface, it was time to make it visually appealing. The ice was painted white, and we added line markings along with our fresh Active Lambeth logos. These finishing touches not only enhance the rink’s appearance but also provide the necessary guidelines for hockey games and skating sessions.
Step 5: Final Checks and Safety Tests
Before opening the rink to the public, our team conducted thorough checks and tests. We ensured that the ice was safe, the surface was level, and everything was in top condition. Safety is always our priority, and we wanted to make sure the rink was perfect for all our visitors.
