About Electric Avenue
Electric avenue was built in 1888 and was one of the first streets in Britain to be illuminated by electric lights.
The innovation was the result of a collaboration between John Frye, a granite merchant, and his brother Alexander Leslie Fyre.
In 1982 musician eddy grant released the hit song “Electric Avenue” which was inspired by the 1981 Brixton Riots. The song brought international attention to Brixton
Today, Electric Avenue is a bustling part of Brixton market. The street is a testament to Brixton’s rich cultural heritage and its ongoing transformation.
