Brockwell Lido FAQs

Lambeth Council is planning for Brockwell Lido to move into council management from 1 July 2026, with the site to be run through Active Lambeth. The aim is to make sure the transition is well managed, services continue, and local people can keep using this important community facility.

This change is linked to the position of the current operator and the need to put the future of the Lido on a more stable footing. It also gives the council the opportunity to bring Brockwell Lido into the wider Active Lambeth service and manage it more directly in the interests of residents.

The current plan is for the transfer to happen from 1 July 2026, subject to the final legal and operational steps being completed. Work is already under way to prepare for that transition and support a smooth handover.

Our intention is to keep the Lido open and maintain services during the transition. The focus is on making the handover as smooth as possible, with as little disruption as possible for members, swimmers and other users of the site.

Our aim is to provide as much stability as possible for staff during the transition. Any staffing arrangements will be handled properly and in line with the relevant legal processes and employment requirements.

The aim is that existing memberships will continue, with more detailed information shared with members ahead of the transfer date. Over time, Brockwell Lido would become part of the wider Active Lambeth offer, giving users access to a broader leisure service across the borough.

There are no immediate plans to increase prices because of the transfer itself. Any future changes would be considered through the council’s normal processes and would be communicated clearly in advance.

The aim is to keep existing arrangements in place as far as possible during the transition. As with any service change, some adjustments may be needed over time, but people would be told in advance if that happens.

The detailed legal and commercial terms are confidential. The council’s priority is to protect public value, manage risk properly and secure a reasonable and defensible arrangement for residents.

Changes like this are complex and need to be handled carefully. There are legal, financial, operational and staffing issues to work through, and the council has needed to make sure any transition is properly planned and in the public interest.

No. Brockwell Lido has remained a council-owned site. It has been operated for many years under a lease and management arrangement with an external provider, which was a common model at the time.

Active Lambeth already runs leisure services in the borough, so the council has an established model in place. Bringing Brockwell Lido into that service means it can be managed as part of a wider local leisure offer, with a stronger link to the council’s priorities for residents and communities.

Yes. The council recognises that residents and users have raised concerns over a period of time. Once the transition is complete, the council will be in a better position to review the site, understand what improvements may be needed and consider future priorities.

The immediate priority is to make sure the transition happens smoothly and services continue. After that, the council will consider the longer-term future of the site as part of Active Lambeth’s wider leisure offer and the council’s broader planning for leisure facilities in the borough.

The council is committed to investing in the Lido’s future. Next steps will be considered once the council has taken control of the site and fully assessed its condition and operational needs.

The council values the views of Lido users and local stakeholders and will continue to listen to them. At this stage, the proposal is for Brockwell Lido to be run through Active Lambeth from 1 July 2026.

Further information will be shared as the transition progresses and ahead of any changes that affect members, users, staff or local residents. The council wants people to have clear and timely information at each key stage.

We will work with Brockwell Lido Members and the wider community to shape requirements for the facility so that Active Lambeth can best meet the needs of its users.
